Bluegrass Psalms

As a picture of how the psalms can speak plainly to our lived experience I want to share some pieces by Charles Pettee and “FolkPsalms”, which I heard at Wild Goose this year. He combines very earthy renderings of the Psalms with language you might hear at farm or hillside with one of my favorite styles of music, bluegrass. I hope hearing these contemporary renderings of the psalms help think of ways in which the words of the Psalms, when you meditate them, can inspire words in your prayer life that are authentically you and openness to sides of yourself in meditation you often overlook.
